These horrifying segmented , bristly deep sea worms are thin, iridescent and can be up to 10 feet long long
And possess razor sharp jaws that can snap their prey in half like twigs, then they drag the pieces down into their burrows to enjoy in solitude
These worms are ambush hunters, if their prey gets near to their mucus line burrow they explode out of their concealment and grab the poor unsuspecting critter in the blink of an eye.
These nocturnal predators do all their hunting without using their eyes, they’re aided by their 5 antennas, that are coated with sensory organs that can detect chemicals and vibrations in the water Their mandibles cutting power is fierce and this is aided by the secondary serrated mouth parts called the maxilae( Maxillay) bringing their meal to its mouth.
Bobbit worms have been around for ages, the oldest one discovered dates back to 400 million years ago.
So, it’s not like something new to fear, just know most Bobbit worms live at depths of 30 to 120 feet deep
