PART 2: Into the Shadows

Personality-wise The Blunt Nose 6 gill shark is
Kind of sluggish.
Some might even call it lazy.
But don’t be fooled
It’s a strong, deliberate swimmer.

Nocturnal by nature, and sensitive to light,
It prefers the ocean’s shadowy depths
Gliding along the sea floor, or drifting through the water column
just above the continental shelf.

And size?
Oh, it’s got that, too.
Up to 15 feet long
the third-largest predatory shark in the world.

Still, spotting one? Pretty rare.
Most of the time, they cruise at depths beyond 3,000 feet.

But in the Pacific Northwest?
They sometimes rise to much shallower waters
Shallow enough that yes…
You could scuba dive with them.

Mysterious

Ancient.
And strangely serene.

The bluntnose sixgill shark…
Not your average shark encounter.
